God's promises are all made upon conditions. If we do His will, if we walk in truth, then we may ask what we will, and it shall be done unto us. While we earnestly endeavor to be obedient, God will hear our petitions; but He will not bless us in disobedience. If we choose to disobey His commandments, we may cry, 'Faith, faith, only have faith,' and the response will come back from the sure Word of God. 'Faith without works is dead; James 2:20. Such faith will only be as sounding brass and as a tinkling cymbal. In order to have the benefits of God's grace we must do our part; we must faithfully work and bring forth fruits meet for repentance.
We are workers together with God. You are not to sit in indolence, waiting for some great occasion, in order to do a great work for the master. You are not to neglect the duty that lies directly in your pathway, but you are to improve the little opportunities that open around you. F&W 47.
(Grandma Joan's remarks) This should solve a lot of answers we have regarding faith and answered prayer. I can see that I need not worry about some great work I can do for God. Just do the things that He shows me right around me, simple duties that lie in my pathway. When He impresses me of something in my life that should be given up, then give it up, this is my work. We do not work our way to heaven because God has paid our redemption price through His Son. But we do need to show our faith by our works, that's what we need to do, step out in faith when we know that we have brought our life into line with His will, then we can ask what we will and He will do it, He also gives us the strength to do His will and faith is a gift from Him too. Be filled today with His Spirit and He will bless you abundantly when we live by His Word. Grandma Joan
