Once upon a time I was going to write a book about the Proverbs, but was a busy person at the time and didn't seem to get to it. But I still love the book of Proverbs, and there are lots of instruction in it and plenty of promises too. To start with, we will just begin in chapter 1.
Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."
If we reverence God, He will bless us with wisdom. I am sure all of us could use wisdom for just about anything in life.
Proverbs 3:5,6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
Don't try to lean on your own understanding, things will fail us if we do. We must acknowledge Him in all our ways and He will direct our paths. Our understanding will seem so feeble compared to His.
Proverbs 37,8 "Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh and strength to your bones."
If we want health and strong bones, we must reverence God and depart from evil, and not try to be wise ourselves, our wisdom comes from God when we reverence Him.
Proverbs 3:9,10 "Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine."
Do you want to have plenty? The way is to honor the Lord with our possessions and with the first fruits of all our increase and we will have plenty for ourselves and others.
Proverbs 3:21-24 "Keep sound wisdom and discretion; For they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck. Then you will walk safely in your way and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down you will not be afraid; yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet."
Get your sound wisdom and discretion from God and they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck, I think it means it will give grace to your being and we can walk safely and will not stumble. Our sleep will be sweet and we will be refreshed.
Proverbs 3:33,34 "He blesses the home of the just. He gives grace to the humble."
We want our homes to be blessed, don't we? And He gives grace to the humble when He blesses us, that is part of His blessing. I love Proverbs, so much to learn from this book. Grandma Joan
