A Life of Simplicity

Are you a simple person?  If you are that is a good thing.  We don't need to have self-esteem or be self-important.  Simplicity is a beautiful thing when it comes to character.  To have a simple character is not being stupid or careless, it would be someone that lives a simple life, and has a simple belief in God that hangs on to His promises and believes He fulfills His promises.  To me that is simplicity.

In Matthew 6:5-15  Jesus tells us not to pray like the hypocrites do but go into our room and shut the door, because they loved to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be heard of men.  Our prayers should be simple and He gives us an example in verses 9-13.

1 Peter 3:3,4  "Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel--rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."  Simple dress, mainly a beautiful, gentle, quiet spirit, which is precious in God's sight.

2 Corinthians 1:12  "For our boasting is this; that the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you."  Even our conduct should be in simplicity and godly.  Sounds so good.

Another thing I think should be in simplicity is our meals, specially when we get older, we need more simple meals and plant based meals are the best for us, and overeating is the plague of the United states, I have been there and I know what it is like to be heavy and heavy laden with too much food.  I am ashamed to say it but it is true, not any more though.  God gives me the victory daily over this forbidden thing.

Genesis 1:29  "And God said, 'See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed, to you it shall be for food."  It is true after the flood when there was no vegetation on the earth for a while, God gave permission to eat of the clean animals, that's why they were taken into the ark by sevens so that they would have food for a while after the waters dried up. The unclean animals were only taken into the ark by twos.

If you would just try a plant based diet for a month and see how much better you will feel.  You don't need meat for strength, the elephant is a vegetarian and look how strong he is.  Just eat whole plant food, anything that grows and of course not poisonous.  There are so many good recipes and just plain good food in the plant kingdom.

So, how about a life of simplicity for you?  Doesn't it sound good to you?  It sure does to me.  Grandma Joan
