James was a brother of Christ, Joseph's son. I love the book of James, he has great insight into the life of what it takes to walk with Christ. I believe you will enjoy this study.
James 1:12 "Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."
I don't know for sure, but I believe without proof, that the crown of life is the first reward the righteous receive from Jesus. I may be wrong, but it really doesn't matter it's just a good thought.
James 1:21 "Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls."
Receiving with meekness (humility) the implanted word is what will save our souls.
James 2:5 "Listen my beloved brethren: has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him."
He has promised that those who love Him will be heirs of His kingdom. Let's do all we can to learn to love Him by studying His life and character.
James 3:2 "For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body."
Do you believe that our tongue gets us into more trouble than any other part of our body? I believe thats why James says if anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, and able to bridle his whole body. So if we can bridle our tongue, we will have the victory over every other sin. That's what it sounds like to me. So why not give our tongue to Christ to control for us. We would probably save ourselves a lot of grief. Grandma Joan
